SINGER GUITARIST RYAHN'S 'LIGHT BLUE' EP IS AN ODE TO HER FATHER AND FINDING PERSONAL HARMONY

"The EP is about starting at zero in a very dark space and overcoming great obstacles to reach a point of harmony within yourself."

Hailing from Broward County, Florida, 21-year-old singer/guitarist Ryahn comes from a family of rule breakers. Her great-grandfather was the first black doctor in the city of Ft. Lauderdale and instilled in Ryahn a strong sense of self and resilience to overcome any obstacle. For Ryahn, family is at the crux of her artistry. Her debut EP "Light Blue" takes inspiration from her father. "The color blue holds a lot of symbolism for me, it was my father's favorite color and also represents the distance between where you are and where you are going and everything in between," Ryahn says. Her father's passing would be the impetus for Ryahn to start sharing her music publicly, and in 2015 she released her debut single "Baby Boy" on Soundcloud garnering over half a million streams and catching the attention of Alunageorge who invited Ryahn to open for her at Bowery Ballroom in New York City in fall 2018.

The eight-track "Light Blue" EP features "Baby Boy," two spoken word interludes, as well as her latest single "Sad Boy." Produced with the help of New York future-funk musician BENAMIN, Ryahn's "Light Blue" EP is an intimate narrative of personal growth.

"I wrote this EP at an extremely low point that I considered my personal rock bottom. I would wake up every morning and the first thing I would do is roll out of my plastic bed and grab my guitar and rush outside to look at the morning sky and play songs. The hope that I felt in those moments would give me energy to make it through the rest of the day. Morning after morning, I would play out on my back porch and it became a sort of therapy that slowly brought me out of a really painful state. The law of attraction and thinking things into existence is very real. 'Light Blue' is an end and a beginning for me; It's me saying goodbye to the person I was two years ago and welcoming in new beliefs and practices, and letting go of things that no longer serve me. Overall, 'Light Blue' is a thank you to my angels and everything and everyone that has contributed to all of my growth and gotten me here so I can move on to the next chapter in peace and clarity."
