STRATEAS CARLUCCI SS18 LOOKBOOK

STRATEAS CARLUCCI is a creative collaboration between Australian designers Peter Strateas and Mario-Luca Carlucci.Inspired by the Paris Metro and the work of the late Chinese artist Ren Hang, STRATEAS CARLUCCI look into what lies beneath the surface layer for their SS18 collection, titled TRANSIT. Ren Hang is a photographer who explores freedom, rebellion and playfulness in his work, mainly shooting nudes in compromising, stacked and tangled positions, to create beautifully crafted surreal compositions of the human body. His work was celebrated and censored in equal measure.

As a starting point STRATEAS CARLUCCI explore and compare the rawness, the grit and beauty of the real world and the underground of the Paris Metro, in contrast to the city's canopy, to Hangs raw and provocative imagery of nudes, which are both confronting and beautiful, yet speak of purity. The metro is a living organism made up of varied individuals, like the bodies presented in Hang's work; intertwined, tangled, bent, stacked and twisted. The vein-like tracks lead to the pulsating core, and outward to the surface aboveground. STRATEAS CARLUCCI draw on this idea of intertwining and meshing opposing notions in this collection, by creating a series of 'Hybrid-garments'. Melding shirts with dresses, tailoring with denim, candy colours with subversive details. Remaining true to the brands DNA, gender fluidity is at the core of this collection. Toying with masculine and feminine forms and fabrications, the hero of the collection remains strong silhouettes and sharp tailoring, with oversized shapes and voluminous bottoms, however street practicality keeps the collection grounded via the bomber jackets, pierced hoodies and sweaters and knit categories. Hang was a part of a generation creating a new language. A vocabulary made to fit in the midst of imposed standards. intentional or not, Hang was a disrupter. There is birth, there is death; life is TRANSIT.
