Lisbon is one of the most vibrant present destinations, idea reiterated by numerous articles in the specialized press and reality easily verifiable by those who circulate in the city. Music festivals and other cultural events obviously have an important role in capturing the attention of those who choose Lisbon as their holiday destination. The vibrant Lisbon music scene and the festival offerings have attracted the attention of many international thinkers about the city. On the other hand, Lisbon presents enough attractions to seduce many creative minds, artists and other industry players who have chosen this city as the basis for their work.
The Portuguese electronics is reinforced in the line-up of the Lisboa Dance Festival with DJ Marfox, Miguel Torga and Himan. In an event where music is strongly celebrated, the space for debate, privileged enough by the festival, has as one of the central points the cultural movement of Lisbon and the city itself. If it’s to celebrate, the event offers the already traditional "Love Affair Pack" in which 2 passes can be purchased for the value of 69€.
Domestic production is boiling. The volume is rich and artists like Miguel Torga and Himan are reflective of a consistent work in the area of house and techno. The "sound of Lisbon" has been transported around the world by some standard-bearers of the national electronic scene. DJ Marfox is the latest confirmation at the festival and is defined as one of the fundamental elements of a unique sound that Lisbon provides.
Lisbon is definitely the key point in the 3rd edition of the LDF. The space for debate, initiated by the event since the first edition, has proposed for this year a much more incisive vision about the city and the sound that emanates from it.
DJ Marfox is an authentic urban, suburban and Lisbon ghetto legend. His most recent and acclaimed album "Chapa Quente" (Príncipe Discos, 2016), was featured in some of the most outstanding tops at the end of the year (FACT, XLR8R, Mixmag...) and was nominated for 'Album of the Year' at the Time Out Awards. His unparalleled vision of baroque and rhythmically expansive techno, imbued with Garage, Bass and Batida (instrumental Kuduro), has seduced and captivated audiences and critics throughout the world. In Portugal, he’s a regular and acclaimed presence at the Noites Príncipe.
Punctuated by hypnotic landscapes and intensely physical rhythms, Miguel Torga's work has as main concept to produce electronic music in Portuguese: techno and house with national identity. This identity is established through the use of vocals in the Camões language, samples of Portuguese cinema and also through constant reference to national symbols and Portuguese culture. His music is edited by foreign publishers, such as the Berliner Aroma Music; Luso-German, such as Con + ainer Music; and also national, such as Freima Labs and Elements Recs. His live performances could already be danced all over the country and in March it is the turn of the Lisboa Dance Festival to dance to the sound of Miguel Torga.
Recognized for his work at publishers such as Freerange Records, Connaisseur or Cocoon, Himan is one of the owners of Release Sustain Recordings. He has more than 20 digital EPs and has been remixed by international names such as Uner, Tiefschwarz, Of Norway, Daso, Basic Soul Unit, Brendon Moeller and Patrick Chardronett. His song "Inside You", remixed by Maceo Plex for a compilation of the Spanish label Galaktika Records, was one of his biggest hits. Recently, the Art Deparment chose one of the themes that was released in "its" label for a compilation that will be released at FABRIC in London.
